Jon
Mercer, MA, is a personal development coach, author and
entrepreneur who suffered for more than 20 years with serious anxiety
and panic attack problems.
In Jon's own words "I had a difficult childhood and by the
teen years had developed the beginning stages of social phobia and
panic attacks. Of course, at that age I had no idea what was happening
to me, which made the symptoms all the more confusing and painful.
I also made the very common mistake of trying to hide my symptoms
and feeling ashamed of them, something that I now know never helps."
After Studying Psychology and Philosophy, Jon moved to Europe,
where he lived and worked for 10 years. In 1994, Jon's anxiety and
panic attack issues took a turn for the worse, and he was put on
anti-anxiety medication by his doctor and told to expect to be "on
the meds" the rest of his life. This was the beginning of a
6 year 'addiction' to antidepressant medicines.
Jon: "Of course, at the time the Dr's assured me that these
medications (SSRI's) were NOT addictive. I learned better when I
tried to get off them and discovered the horrible withdrawal symptoms.
These days, the manufacturers of SSRI's admit there are withdrawal
symptoms, but at that time, the Dr simply looked at me as if I were
the biggest fool he'd ever seen, and laughed it off."
Eventually, with the support of his family and friends, Jon managed
to get off the medications. Jon recalls, "this was my first
real step toward recovery from panic and anxiety. In the years that
followed, I studied anxiety-based problems and treatments of all
types, amassing a huge library of information from a variety of
sources and perspectives, trying to find the one "key"
that would release me from these problems. I learned an enormous
amount about the problem, both from personal experience and academic
study, and finally discovered a combination of techniques and practical
exercise that at first "controlled, and then eliminated the
anxiety and panic problems I had dealt with for so long."
In the years that followed, Jon began working as a personal development
coach, helping clients from all over the world overcome their anxiety
and panic issues. The EasyCalm Video Coaching Series is the culmination
of Jon's experience coaching individuals one-on-one for so many
years. Jon: "I'm really grateful for the hundreds of positive
emails I get about the series. It's pretty nice to turn on the computer
in the morning and find a great "success story" email
waiting in the in box. Kind of makes the whole day a little sweeter."
