ADHD
and anxiety are very closely related and in fact, their
symptoms and treatment usually overlap. Both of these problems
concern "control issues," and it is in learning to
deal with this that both ADHD and anxiety can be eliminated
Once in a while,
I get an email from someone who will ask about the origin
of ADHD and anxiety or panic attacks. They may even wonder
if they were just "born this way," the same way
some people are born with red hair, and there is nothing they
can do about it.
The
answer is simply: no.
While some studies have shown that there is a "tendency"
within some families to be more anxious, or even develop the
symptoms commonly referred to as ADHD, it is critical to understand
that this is only a "tendency."
A
tendency toward anxiety or ADHD does not mean you will develop
it, or that you have no control over the situation--not at
all.
Once
an individual DECIDES he/she will not be a victim--they no
longer are. And neither ADHD, anxiety or any other issue can
stand in their way.
