Excessive
Yawning can sometimes be a symptom of
generalized anxiety, but it is also associated with several
physical illnesses. For this reason, it is extremely important
to be diagnosed by your physician before trying to find a
cure for this issue.
When
we yawn, two things happen: we open our jaw widely and take
in a very deep breath. This creates great pressure in the
lungs temporarily, and is normally of no concern whatsoever
to our physical or emotional well-being.
The
causes of yawning are usually tiredness, lack of sleep, or
just plain boredom. But if an individual is yawning excessively,
it could indicate a generalized anxiety problem, or possibly
a more serious physical condition. Always consult your doctor
first in these circumstances.
Most medical disorders that are associated with yawning involve
the central nervous system. Conditions such as epilepsy, for
example, can be associated with excessive yawning.
But
generalized anxiety, which can lead to increased activity
in the vagus nerve, can also be associated with excessive
yawning. If
your doctor determines there is no physical cause of your
yawning, you could be experiencing a symptom of generalized
anxiety.
